About
Sterling Investments is a London based independent fund management boutique. The purpose of the firm is to provide capital growth to investors, by investing in high quality businesses – with a long-term approach. Our ethos is marked by:
Our approach starts with care. Investors entrust us with their money and we are ever mindful of our fiduciary duty; treating investors the way we would like to be treated, if our roles were reversed.
We only invest in people we know and trust. Whether it is life, business or investing, trust underpins everything we do. The basis of our day-to-day dealings is Dictum Meum Pactum (My Word Is My Bond).
We are here to deliver long-term, sustainable value – not short-term trading profits. We have endured market cycles. We are mentally wired to be patient and “do nothing” when nothing is required to be done. We act only when the right opportunity emerges.
The MI Sterling Select Companies Fund was established in 1963 and has a long history of compounding wealth and adding value, net of all costs, including tax and fees. The returns we generate are not mere numbers – our performance affects our clients. We aim to increase their disposable income, improve their retirement outcomes or simply increase the wealth they can pass on to their loved ones or charity. In short, our investment results can improve people’s lives. Hence, when clients entrust us with their money, we act responsibly and with a duty of care.
We find it quite bizarre that Britain has more than 3,000 funds but fewer than 2,000 listed companies! We believe investors do not need another copycat fund that simply hugs the index. Instead, we wish to do things differently, focus on stocks other mainstream investors are not interested in and generate long-term returns.
We are proud of our track record and are devoted to maintain, even improve it.
We are independent, own the firm and set our own operating codes. This ensures that we are not distracted or pressured to continuously “asset gather.” Instead, we focus on our core activity of investing. We invest exactly how we would like our money manager to invest – if our positions were reversed.
There is no doubt, ownership aligns interests and we extend this exact philosophy when we invest in companies – we invest in management teams who have their skin in the game.
